Impeached!

Never before has a peach sounded so good to me. So sweet. So delicious. Such mouthwatering juiciness. Trump was, indeed imPEACHed by the House yesterday. Unanimous Democrats, joined by just 10 brave Republicans, voted yesterday to get that eff-er outa there. Amen! Can I get a whoot whoot?

Juicy orange imPEACHment.

This impeachment stuff isn’t anything new to us, sadly. And comically, too. Trump is the very first President to be elected and impeached in his first term as our “Commander in chief.” Twice. Hopefully, some more measures go through so not only will this be our tyrant dictator’s only term, he will also never be able to hold public office again. We can hope. That would be a good thing, a really good thing.

If you know me even a little bit, you know that I am not a Trump fan (to put it mildly). Before he was elected, I explained to my Republican friends that the 2016 election was a battle between good and evil. It was different than any other election, and I knew it in my gut. Until Trump, I could be happy (or disappointed, depending who won), but that’s okay. That’s democracy in action. However, the 2016 election was unlike any other. Trump is unlike any other, too. (“Grab ’em by the pussy,” etc.). A friend said, “If someone shows you who they are, believe them.” She was right. Hilary wasn’t a great candidate, but I don’t think she’s evil. On the other hand, there was definitely “evil” with Trump’s candidacy. And then his Presidency. It’s sad, really, and his administration has brought to light all the ugliness, racism, and hatred in this country. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe it’s time that the United States citizens know who we “really” are. Or maybe there were always a lot of haters, but they were hidden, and Trump’s seeping evil brought them out from under their rocks.

I’d like to believe that there were not as many evil people before, but that Trump’s blatant bigotry brought out the worst in us. Bigly. However, the numbers reveal a different story. Yesterday’s House Democrats voted unanimously to impeach. Disgustingly, only 10 Republicans joined in. Ten. After everything we’ve seen. His failure to respond to Covid. His lies. The violence of last Tuesday. The blood that was shed by rabid Trump supporters, who Trump incited to riot. They came prepared, too. Zip ties. Hammers. Guns.

More ickiness was revealed yesterday afternoon. Turns out that on January 5, some Republicans gave a small, early tour to our Capitol’s uninvited guests. Um, actually, they weren’t uninvited. It was an inside job. First, they got an early tour. Then, they were warmly welcomed, strongly encouraged by our nation’s Tyrant Clown, a man who simply cannot admit defeat, though every court case across the country confirms the news he is simply too sick, or too crazy, to hear. He lost. There was no fraud. So, in advance, the folks on his side, those who would become part of last week’s terrorism, got a personal tour of the labyrinth. Nobody should have known ahead of time where Pelosis’ office was, for example. They did. The idea that the House of Representatives, and, presumably a Republican, gave out information before the failed coup attempt–or even more than one Republican, which is even scarier. The insurrectionists knew where to go. Somebody told them.

My nephew, who works in DC as a legislative assistant, explains that the Capitol is not an easy building to navigate–from any angle. Or, as he put it, from both sides of the building. The fact that the building is itself a maze, and that it was closed to all tours in the days leading up to the riots, suggest something is very wrong here. I smell a rat! Or, an entire pack of them, and I don’t mean the fun kind with Sinatra and Sammy Davis Junior.

We are living in perilous times, and I don’t just mean the virus. In the days to come before Biden’s inauguration, we are at more risk than ever for more violence, more mayhem…more deaths. On January 20, 2021, I certainly hope that security is better for the inauguration than it was on January 6, when the rioters committed treason, broke in through windows, threatened to murder Mike Pence, Pelosi, and others. If the terrorist mob could be so angry on the day the legislators declared the results of a lawful election, then how will they react on the day that President-Elect Biden is sworn in? I shudder to think.
